Iran and Azerbaijan Presidents Highlight Cooperation and Regional Peace
WANA (Apr 28) – At a joint press conference, the President of Iran stressed that Iran and Azerbaijan can work together to establish peace and security in the region and overcome challenges.
On Monday, Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking alongside Ilham Aliyev, expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s hospitality and described Tehran-Baku relations as historical and rooted in shared religious, ideological, and political values. He noted that the two countries can engage in broad cooperation across all fields.
Highlighting the strategic agreements signed between the two nations, Pezeshkian added that President Aliyev has instructed Azerbaijani officials to implement them, while Iran has tasked its Foreign Minister with following up on the agreements. He emphasized the need for deeper scientific, political, economic, and security cooperation.
Pezeshkian listed the expansion of financial collaboration, the development of transportation corridors, improvement of road networks, and support for joint producers as other key priorities. He stated that cooperation in science, culture, and politics would prevent adversaries from disrupting bilateral relations.
He reiterated Iran’s commitment to fully implementing the agreements with Azerbaijan and added that new projects could shape a brighter future for Iran, Azerbaijan, and the broader region.
Pezeshkian also expressed hope that economic, cultural, scientific, security, and military ties between the two nations would flourish, leaving a proud legacy for future generations.
Aliyev Stresses Expanding Ties and Implementing Joint Projects
During the joint press conference, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev welcomed his Iranian counterpart and emphasized the deep-rooted bonds between the peoples of the two nations, which he said have strengthened governmental relations. He described Pezeshkian’s visit as an important step toward expanding cooperation.
Referring to their private and joint meetings, Aliyev highlighted the strategic importance of Tehran-Baku relations and announced the signing of significant cooperation documents, reflecting both countries’ strong commitment to expanding collaboration across all areas.
Aliyev underlined the necessity of strengthening cooperation within international organizations such as the United Nations, ECO, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, stressing that the two countries’ relations are built on regional security and mutual interests.
He also described the North-South Corridor project as vital for all participating countries and said that the development of ports, roads, and railways to boost future trade volumes is a priority.
Aliyev announced the resumption of cultural consultations between Iran and Azerbaijan, which had been suspended for eight years, and emphasized the role of cultural commonalities and family ties between the two nations.
Expressing condolences over the explosion at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port that claimed several lives, Aliyev offered sympathy to the Iranian people and government, and praised Pezeshkian’s decision to proceed with his visit despite the tragedy as a sign of the deep ties between the two countries.
